Holiday Relief; focusing on new priorities after the holiday rush

Holy smokes, it’s 2023 and I am still processing 2020. Yikes, I can’t believe how time flies. What a perfect time to reflect. How much have you as an esthetician or your business changed since 2020 or maybe in just one year? If you’re reading this you made it through the holidays, oh man, what a relief. Since the hustle and bustle of family time, corporate dinners, shopping and events is over now we can spend time overviewing what’s next and evaluate how we’ve grown.

Taking time to prioritize our business success is the best way to become organized and prepare for the upcoming year. If you haven’t yet, guess what, no biggie. It’s better late than never.

I am the first to admit that I haven’t always been the most organized esthetician. Due to a lack of planning I often had to learn really hard and annoying lessons. My esthetic practice and financial income suffered the most. Having so many epic fails in life and business has actually made me a much more knowledgeable human. I want to help save you the headache and time and share the tools I’ve learned.

Be like the Grinch when he says “6:30, dinner with me. I can’t cancel that again.” and schedule a time to sit and plan out your year. Consider what to plan. Schedule two work days to plan/organize and only do that. Sure it takes time away from a client workday but listen, it pours back into the client experience later. You will be able to show up differently because you have an action plan in place. This is a part of your business, it may not be as fun as taking clients but it is essential to being a boss babe.

Let’s make this as simple as possible, okay? What are we exactly looking at and reviewing? Let’s start with the most important factor. Finances. Again, I’ll admit I haven’t always been the best at making money the priority in my business. I always saw my esthetic practice as a nurturing space and service that I wanted to make accessible to all. After several years of hardly breaking even I realized that I wasn’t nurturing myself or my life. One of the biggest takeaways I had from the training I took on the Preston Comedone Rxtractor™ course,  was that it’s a business first, and aesthetic practice second. Because, without a financially successful business, there isn’t a way to be an esthetician. Our business has expenses that we must be able to pay to keep our clients’ services fueled. Gather your financial information from your point of sale system and see what services and products did best and set a percent goal of how much you would like to increase. If you don’t have a point of sale program like Square or Vagaro that should then be your first step.

Now review marketing.

  • Do you send monthly emails?
  • Have an online presence?
  • Is your brand recognizable?
  • Are you being intentional about what you’re posting?
  • Are you tying in your post to the goals you have?

Are you making more than you’re spending on supplies? Do you know your profit per sale?

So many questions to think about, we can’t answer them all here but my goal is to give you a starting point and things to dig deeper into.

Now let’s hold each other’s well manicured hands and walk together, I’ll try and make this a short walk.

Let’s say your most booked service is brazilians.

Your total revenue was $100 dollars for waxing for a whole year (Obviously we are boss babes so it was way more, but to keep it simple lets go small numbers).  Maybe your goal is a 5% increase to $105. Cool, so how do we make this happen?

Strategy. We now know we need to make a plan. Let’s plan a quarter at a time ( I do a year but for the blog lets say 3 months.)

KISS (keep it simple sally) : I am going to share a really generic and simple sample of a 3 month planning sheet. You can find better business planners on websites like Etsy, but this might help you get started. I’ll also include a blank PDF, if you’d like to try it out.

Another thing to prioritize is ordering your supplies and being prepared for your clients! Alexander’s Aesthetics is always here to help with that too.

More education is an amazing goal, so if it’s on your list for 2023 here are some of the classes Alexander’s Aesthetics recommends.
